Company Registration in Foshan for Foreign Investors

Registering a company in Foshan means filing establishment documents with the Foshan market supervision authority, obtaining a business licence with a unified social credit code, then completing chops, tax registration and a corporate bank account. For foreign investors the decisive question comes earlier: whether your business scope is open to foreign ownership at all. We answer that first, then run the registration.

Which entity fits

Three structures cover most foreign investments in Foshan. The choice is driven by whether you need to sign contracts, issue invoices and employ staff in China — not by which is cheapest to register.

Registration and work permit: the right order

This is the question that derails the most timelines. The company must exist and be tax-registered before it can act as the employing entity for a foreigner's work permit.

  1. Establish the companyBusiness licence issued, chops made, tax registration completed. The entity now exists as an employer.
  2. Open the bank accountBasic deposit account and, for foreign capital, a foreign currency capital account.
  3. Apply for the work permit notificationFiled by the employer; approval lets the foreign national apply for a Z visa.
  4. Enter China and collect the permit cardMedical check and permit card issuance after entry.
  5. Apply for the work-type residence permitAt the exit-entry administration; validity is aligned with the work permit.

A foreign investor who wants to come first and set up later can enter visa-free or on a business visa for meetings, but cannot legally work in Foshan on that status.

Frequently asked questions

What does company registration in Foshan cost?
Three components: government fees (establishment registration itself is currently free), out-of-pocket costs such as chops and bank charges, and our service fee. If you use a serviced address, add that. We quote each line separately rather than a single bundled number.
Can the company be registered at a residential address?
Some districts allow it with proof of consent from interested parties, and the use must not disturb residents. Manufacturing, food service and training businesses generally cannot use residential premises. Confirm with the district window before signing a lease.
How much registered capital should I put?
Enough to match your scale and any tender or licensing threshold, and no more than you can actually pay in within five years. Subscribed capital is a liability, not a badge. Very low capital can also complicate bank onboarding.
What if the company name is rejected?
Prepare two or three alternatives. Rejections usually come from similarity to an existing name in the same industry, restricted words, or an industry term that does not match the business scope. If a third party's trademark is involved, assess authorisation before resubmitting.
Can I register the company and then apply for a work permit?
Yes, and that is the correct order. The company must first be established and tax-registered so it can act as the employer. Expect the permit to follow the bank account, not precede it.
